Before and After External Wall Cladding Gallery

This home was built in the 1940s .It has an old corrugated iron roof the front porch was falling down the guttering and downpipes needed replacing and the home was clad in asbestos/fibro. In short it needed a complete facelift and this was possible because the house was structurally sound.

We started with renewing the roof, the old corrugated iron was stripped and new hardwood battens were fitted to the roof trusses, a 50 mm foil insulation blanket was then fitted to the battens and then a new colorbond roof installed.

Colorbond gutter was installed over new colorbond facia cover and then the downpipes.

The fibro sheeting was encased in Palliside UPVC weatherboards,which can be used in bushfire regions as they have a nil ignition rate, and never need painting.

The eaves were lined in Icon eave sheeting which never needs painting and gives the appearance of V-jointed timber.

The windows were not changed on this home but we dressed them up with window hoods and also replace the old awning with a hipped bullnose verandah.

The home is ready for another 70-100 years.

BEFORE

The home had been partially resheeted in AC cement sheeting with the view to rendering or painting.
But after the client investigated the advantages of Palliside cladding over the othe scenarios, there was only one choice ! Palliside by a country mile!

AFTER

The work that was performed was not only restricted to installing Palliside weatherboards.
The client had already installed aluminium windows,but the problem with most aluminium windows is that they look naked and to solve the problem Peter installed 65 mm aluminium clipon architraves after the new cladding was installed and the windows flashed. Barge boards and facia boards were covered in colorbond metal flashings.
The eaves were all lined with Icon eave sheeting.
Now we have a new home at the old address with a substanial increase in market value should the clients ever wish to sell, giving them a huge return on the cost of the improvements they undertook.

Before

The home has been previously clad in Permalum aluminium cladding with butt-jointed thin windows and timber architraves, this previous renovation was done in the 70’s.

AFTER

After

The concrete tile roof was restored. The eaves clad in Icon eave sheet (almond). Peter changed the downpipes to the colour of the Palliside cladding (glade) which was installed after stripping the aluminium cladding which was dented and peeling. Cladding aluminium windows with external architraves as part of the extrusion  and the existing external timber architraves are removed. The old windows had perished rubber, were corroded and because of their size were rattling in the wind and leaking. My cladding windows have no rubber on the outside to perish, they are silicone sealed, cyclone rated and guaranteed not to leak as I also flash the surround of the new windows when they are installed.

For extra insulation and security I installed Grey laminated security glass (the same as fitted to office buildings). The glass is also available in clear. Most of my jobs have laminated glass in the windows, for insulation and security.

AFTER

The home has now been modernised and made maintenance free.

The roof was restored ,broken tiles replaced, cleaned, filler/sealer and then 2 coats of roof membrane waterproofing (black) applied, and lastly bedding and pointing. note; the power lines are insulated during construction for safety. The gutters, facias and downpipes fitted are all colourbond. The gutters are 115mm slotted, so any over flow will not run back into the eaves. Again the eaves have been clad in Icon eave sheet in white. The windows have been changed to cladding windows with laminated glass for insulation and security, and the right window has been changed in size to match the left window, screens and locks fitted. where the windows are made smaller the inside is gyprocked. The fibro has been cladded over and sealed with Palliside weatherboards which are structural and can be used in new construction, fitted direct to studs. All light fittings have been refitted.

Existing home clad in fibro downstairs and Hardie Plank on the top floor addition which had been added 20 years ago.

AFTER

After

The home has been completely renew outside with colorbond gutter, facia, barges, downpipes-moutain blue/Icon eave sheet-almond/aluminium cladding windows ,screens , locks-Primrose. The verandah was enclosed adding a new window/air-con conduit cover changed to primrose/existing fibro, hardie-plank cladded over and encased in the insulating Palliside UPVC weatherboards-primrose.

1960’s terracota /fibro/timber window cottage,structurally sound . Just the use- by date of the exterior has passed.
NOTE; this BEFORE photo was taken 9 years before the AFTER photo (check the vegetation in the garden).

After

The terracotta roof was overhauled, broken tiles, replaced, cleaned, rebedded where necessary and pointed then an anti-fungicide apply to kill the lichen spores . A roof ventilator was fitted.

Colorbond gutter and facia in black were fitted with matching black cladding windows with grey laminated glass(front of the home faced west) screens/locks the inside of the windows have dressed maple reveals and 65mm architraves as standard .The eaves were clad and Palliside UPVC weatherboards fitted ,after 9 years there is no fading or powdering.

The home looks the same as the day it was finished!

Before

1920’s iron roof, timber windows, weatherboard home with exposed rafters and eaves in original condition, dry rot in weatherboards.

AFTER

After

Firstly all dry rot was cut out ! The barge boards on the gables are cover in colorbond and the gutters and facia are fitted and the eaves boxed in with eave sheeting the verandah ceiling was also clad. The meter board was exposed and a colorbond meter box was installed, the cladding windows installed were single hung to match the 1920’s style. Powder coated Georgian columns are fitted and the weatherboards are cladded over with Palliside UPVC weatherboards which will not support combustion (burn) and can be used in all bush fire zoned areas of Australia .
The home now looks like it did when it was built in the 1920’s and will now last another 100 years with no maintenance other than a wash.

The roof was given a complete restoration, broken tiles replaced, tiles sealed, 2 coats of roof membrane applied and the the ridges bedded and pointed.The gutters facias and downpipes have been changed to colorbond and note our gutters have been fitted using internal gutter hanging, hence a clean line. The windows have been changed to aluminium cladding type so the Palliside insulating weatherboards fit in behind the window giving a smooth look. The centre window has been changed to match the other two front windows giving a more modern look. And a new colorbond awning has been installed to provide shelter over the entry.

It’s now a brand new home and no more painting!

50’s timber/ concrete tile cottage with major pealing of paint which would have to be burnt off primed and 2 coats of paint applied probably at a cost of $10K or more ! Repeated every 7 years!

AFTER

After

The concrete tiles have been restored using the same procedures as previously outlined on the Fairfield and Hornsby renovations. Note, concrete tiles do not gain maximum strength till they are fully cured and this can take up to 50 years and they will last 100 years once restored! Again colorbond gutter, facia and downpipes( river gum ) fitted .Primrose cladding windows, screens and locks to match the Palliside weatherboard Cladding which has been fitted over the existing weatherboards. This provides an additional layer and hence trapping more air and assisting the insulating cellular core of the Palliside external cladding, an R rating of approximately 2.5 is the norm when Palliside is installed over fibro or weatherboard.

Log cabin fibro, concrete tile home in a bush fire zoned area.

After

The tile roof has been restored as outlined on previous jobs, colorbond gutters,facia and downpipes installed, gutter with slotted front to prevent water running back into the home. The eaves have been clad. Fire rated aluminium cladding windows, screens, locks all made to measure with new dressed maple reveals and architraves fitted internally. The fixed window over the garage has been filled in and a new garage door installed. Fire rated Australian made and designed Palliside insulating weatherboards have entombed the existing asbestos cladding making the house now safe. All work with asbestos is carried out as per OHMS and WSA.

No worries about bush fires, asbestos, painting or summers now!
