Vinyl cladding compared to Palliside

Insulated vinyl wall cladding in Sydney consists of Polystyrene foam glue to the back of a thin 0.05 – 1mm strip of vinyl. The foam varies in thickness from 12-25mm depending on the wall cladding selected. However the thickness varies over the profile of the vinyl to in some cases no foam backing.
Where it covers the board completely on homes in Sydney it will result in damp wall syndrome because it prevents the condensation which builds up in winter and humid summer days from passing through the walls.

As mentioned previously insulated Palliside has the insulation built into the cellular core and the air trapped between the insulated Palliside and the existing fibro or timber wall will also add additional R value, total R value estimated to be in excess of R2.5. Insulation is simply trapping air!
